■About the real New Model Army (from HWS's website)
Since many people don't know much about the real gun it's based on, I'd like to share some information with fans here.
The New Model Army is a revolver manufactured by Remington in the United States from 1863 to 1875. The total production is said to be 132,000 units, and it is a .44 caliber percussion revolver with a 6-round capacity. Percussion is a firing system that existed before the advent of metallic cartridges, which are common in modern firearms. There are safety notches between the nipples of the percussion cylinder on the 8-inch octagonal barrel. This safety allowed the gun to be safely carried even when fully loaded with 6 rounds.
It is also famous for its use in the American Civil War (1861-65) and was a rival to the Colt 1860 Army. While the Colt 1860 Army was open-top, the New Model Army had a solid frame, which set it apart from the 1860 Army in terms of robustness. In the classic Western film "Pale Rider," the scene where the protagonist quickly changes cylinders was impressive, and this is a characteristic of this gun that is possible with a solid frame.
