Traditional Round Butt Frame

From the dawn of repeating pistols in the mid-19th century, handgun grip frames incorporated a "round butt" design, featuring a rounded bottom.

Smith & Wesson, the largest American manufacturer, adopted the round butt frame for its revolvers starting in the 1870s, and it is said that the first K-frame revolver introduced in 1899 also originally featured a round butt.

The reason for the popularity of this rounded grip shape was its superior operability and comfort, as it fit perfectly into the palm of the hand. Additionally, it offered high practicality by reducing unnecessary protrusions when carried and minimizing snags when drawing the gun quickly from a holster or pocket.

1911 Round Butt Custom

Ed Brown Products, a well-known custom 1911 manufacturer in the United States, is said to have begun developing an idea in the 1990s that directly transferred the concept of the revolver's round butt to the 1911 auto. This idea was introduced in 2000 as the bobtail frame.

Today, various American companies, including Smith & Wesson, Kimber, and SIG SAUER, release custom 1911s incorporating the bobtail concept.

The "round-butting" of a 1911 auto is achieved through a bold modification that involves cutting off the rear angle of the grip frame and using a dedicated mainspring housing and grip panels.

These changes, while giving the 1911 auto a unique appearance, provide significant improvements in weight reduction and portability, along with excellent handling thanks to a design that comfortably fits the palm.

TRP Bobtail Custom

WESTERN ARMS presents this custom 1911, a collectible piece with a unique and distinctive form, inspired by Springfield Armory's bobtail concept model, the TRP 4.25" CC (Carry Contour).

The slide features a traditional short barrel length of 4.25 inches, typical of a .45 auto. Modern font markings are precisely machined onto both sides of the slide.

The wide cocking serrations at the front and rear not only create a tactical appearance but also offer practical utility, allowing for easy operation even with gloved hands.

The front sight is equipped with fiber optics that glow green under light. Combined with a low-mount tactical rack rear sight that reduces snagging on clothing, it provides an excellent sight picture.

The front part of the rear sight is deeply scooped out and also serves as a cocking shoulder, providing an effective form for operating the slide by grasping the top of the slide in a reverse grip.

The traditional straight barrel, paired with a thick barrel bushing, is crafted from machined aluminum to reduce weight and minimize the impact of slide movement.

Another major attraction is the abundant use of metal parts, such as a metal chamber cover that replicates a cartridge indicator and a steel recoil spring guide, creating a substantial feel reminiscent of a real firearm.

Custom Points of the Frame Assembly

The bobtail frame is a luxurious reproduction based on existing frame components, meticulously machined. It's a custom specification with anti-slip checkering carved into the front strap and the bottom of the trigger guard.

The trigger, which incorporates an adjustment screw, is a speed trigger that has been thoroughly lightened.

The hammer adopts a delta style, which provides a larger contact area for the thumb than a ring-shaped skeletonized hammer, making cocking easier.

The ambidextrous extended thumb safety, operable from both sides, features a minimal, snag-free design with a boldly shaved-down spur, helping to prevent accidental discharge.

The high-ride grip safety is designed to prevent the base of the thumb from being injured by the hammer when gripping the gun in a high position. While maintaining this function, the tail part has been minimally processed to be as compact as possible. A memory bump is provided at the bottom, offering high operability that allows the grip safety to be disengaged unconsciously.

The mainspring housing, which curves gently to match the lower angle of the frame, fits comfortably in the palm, providing a comfortable grip not found in standard 1911s.

High-grade specifications with standard real G10 grips

The left and right grip panels feature custom G10 grips with a distinctive black and green laminated material pattern.

G10 material is an artificial material made by compressing and hardening fiberglass and epoxy resin under high pressure. It is favored for grips on real firearms and knives due to its excellent durability and water resistance.

The panel surface features scalloping to assist easy access to the magazine catch button and a complex anti-slip pattern. The reliable grip unique to G10 provides a secure hold and an authentic feel.

Overwhelmingly Substantial Solid Finish

The slide incorporates Western Arms' renowned side polish finish, a unique manufacturing method.

After the slide and frame are blast-shot to a matte dark gray tone, only the left and right sides of the slide are polished, leaving a hairline finish for a solid texture.

By utilizing the properties of heavy-weight material, a deeply textured two-tone finish reminiscent of metal is reproduced, creating an indescribable beauty that cannot be achieved with ordinary painted finishes.
