Real Steel Overview:
The M16A3 is a 5.56×45mm NATO assault rifle developed by Colt in the United States, a derivative model based on the M16A2. While its basic structure and appearance are almost identical to the M16A2, its most distinctive feature lies in its firing mechanism. Unlike the M16A2, which uses semi-automatic and 3-round burst firing, the M16A3, like the M16A1, offers selectable semi-automatic and full-automatic firing, designed for units requiring high suppressive fire.

The M16A3 was adopted to a limited extent by units such as the US Navy SEALs, Seabees (Naval Construction Battalions), and ship security forces, and was not as widely deployed as the M16A2, which became the standard rifle for the Army and Marine Corps, or its successor, the M16A4. As a result, production numbers were relatively low, making it a rare model among the M16 series.

It employs the direct impingement operating system common to the M16 series, achieving excellent accuracy and long-range performance with its 20-inch barrel. It also inherits improvements adopted in the M16A2, such as a case deflector, a thicker barrel, and an adjustable rear sight, ensuring high durability and reliability. Early models featured an A2-type upper receiver with a fixed carrying handle, but later versions introduced flat-top receivers, allowing for the attachment of modern accessories like optical sights.

The M16A3 is regarded as a combat-oriented rifle that combines the excellent completeness of the M16A2 with full-automatic firing capability, and its design philosophy was carried over to the later M16A4 and M4A1. Although adopted by a limited number of units, it is still highly regarded as one of the representative derivatives of the M16 series, combining high accuracy, excellent reliability, and high suppressive power through full-auto fire.
