Tanaka S&W M49 "Body Guard" 3-inch HW Version 2 Gas Gun

Based on S&W's Chief Special, a model with a concealed hammer to prevent it from catching on clothing was developed for self-defense and sold to the public under the name "Bodyguard." Unlike the "Centennial," which completely covered the hammer and was double-action only, this model had an exposed hammer tip, allowing for single-action operation. Initially, only a lightweight aluminum-framed version (later the M38 Bodyguard Airweight) was available, but a steel-framed version was added to the lineup and named the "M49 Bodyguard." While the 2-inch barrel model is typically associated with this rifle, a 3-inch barrel model also exists. While portability was sacrificed and overall balance was compromised, the 1-inch longer barrel, combined with single-action operation, offered improved accuracy. Another advantage was that it allowed for the use of a longer ejector rod than the 2-inch model, ensuring reliable ejection of .38 Special cartridges. The 3-inch model was produced in very limited numbers, making it a premium model.
 
Now, the 3-inch model of the M49 Bodyguard is available as a gas gun. This is the first gas model in our lineup. The internals are Version 2, the latest version of our S&W J-frame model guns, and feature smoother operation and more realistic engravings.
