The SR-47 is a prototype assault rifle developed by the American firearms manufacturer Knight's Armament Company (KAC) in the early 2000s, in response to a request from the U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). Based on the M4 carbine, it was designed to directly use 7.62×39mm ammunition and AK magazines, which are used in the AK-47 and AKM. The goal was to combine the excellent operability of the AR platform with the high logistical availability of the AK series.

The development was driven by special operations conducted in places like Afghanistan. Special forces operating behind enemy lines for extended periods faced difficulties in resupplying 5.56×45mm NATO ammunition, while 7.62×39mm ammunition and AK magazines were relatively easy to obtain locally. The SR-47 was designed as a rifle that could utilize these locally available ammunition types while allowing soldiers accustomed to the M4 to operate it with the same familiar feel.

While its appearance is similar to the M4, to accommodate 7.62×39mm ammunition, key components such as the receiver, bolt, and barrel were specially designed, and a large magazine housing compatible with AK magazines was adopted. Furthermore, it features a 14.5-inch barrel, a flat-top receiver, an adjustable stock, and a KAC-made RAS handguard, achieving high expandability and excellent operability. Despite using AK magazines, the controls, such as the magazine release and selector, follow the AR platform layout, making it easy for existing M4 users to handle without discomfort.

Although the SR-47 showed good performance in tests, it was not officially adopted due to inconsistencies in the quality of locally available ammunition and magazines, which made stable operation difficult. Only a few units were manufactured, making it known as a rare prototype weapon, sometimes referred to as the "phantom AR." Its innovative concept is said to have significantly influenced the development of subsequent 7.62×39mm-compatible AR platforms.
