The URX II (Upper Receiver Extending II) is a second-generation free-float rail system developed by the American firearms manufacturer Knight's Armament Company (KAC). It emerged as an evolution of the traditional RAS series, offering a handguard that combines high accuracy with excellent expandability. It has been adopted for many AR platforms, including KAC rifles such as the SR-15, SR-16, and SR-25. By incorporating a top rail that extends seamlessly from the receiver to the handguard, it is designed to allow for the free mounting of optical sights, night vision devices, and more.
The main features of the URX II are its high accuracy due to the free-float construction and KAC's unique high-rigidity design. It achieves excellent fixing rigidity by using a dedicated barrel nut, and MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rails are placed on the top, sides, and bottom. It offers high expandability, allowing for the attachment of various accessories such as red dot sights, scopes, weapon lights, laser devices, and foregrips. Many models also feature a smart design with an integrated folding front sight at the front end of the handguard that can be deployed only when needed.
The URX II, combining excellent robustness and practicality, has been adopted by military and law enforcement agencies, including many special forces ARs, and has received high acclaim. Its design philosophy has been passed on to its successors, the URX3, URX3.1, and URX4, and has had a significant impact on the development of modern AR handguards. It remains a popular model supported by many shooters and custom users as a representative KAC handguard in the classic quad rail style.
