The FN SCAR-L (Special Operations Forces Combat Assault Rifle - Light) is a 5.56×45mm NATO modular assault rifle developed by FN Herstal of Belgium based on the requirements of the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). Born from the SCAR program initiated in the early 2000s, it was developed as a next-generation rifle combining high reliability, durability, accuracy, and excellent expandability. The SCAR series includes the 5.56mm SCAR-L (Light) and the 7.62mm SCAR-H (Heavy), with high parts commonality to improve operational and maintenance efficiency.

The SCAR-L adopts a short-stroke gas piston system and a rotating bolt, demonstrating excellent operational reliability even in harsh environments. Compared to the AR platform, it is characterized by less combustion gas flowing into the interior, which helps suppress malfunctions due to dirt. In addition, by adopting an aluminum monolithic receiver and a free-float barrel, it achieves both high rigidity and excellent accuracy. It is lightweight and easy to handle, designed to be adaptable to a wide range of missions, from special operations to general infantry.

Its greatest feature is its high modularity. It allows for the exchange of barrels of different lengths depending on the application, and comes standard with a multi-functional stock featuring folding, telescoping, and cheekpiece adjustment capabilities. Furthermore, it is equipped with Picatinny rails on the upper receiver and handguard, allowing for the attachment of various accessories such as optical sights, weapon lights, laser sights, and foregrips. This enables flexible setups tailored to mission requirements and operating environments.
