Real Steel Overview:
The AK-47S (AKS) is a folding stock model of the AK-47 designed by Soviet engineer Mikhail Kalashnikov. The "S" stands for "Skladnoy" (folding) in Russian, and it was developed around the same time as the AK-47, which was officially adopted in 1949, for units that prioritized portability, such as airborne and armored units. The basic structure and operating system are the same as the standard AK-47, but the adoption of a metal underfolding stock significantly improved portability and storage.

Like the AK-47, the AK-47S uses a long-stroke gas piston system and a rotating bolt, firing 7.62x39mm ammunition. It maintains high operational reliability even in harsh environments such as mud, dust, and low temperatures, and is also characterized by excellent durability and maintainability due to its simple structure. With the high penetration and suppression power unique to 7.62x39mm ammunition, it was used in many countries and regions due to its high practicality, capable of handling a wide range of combat from close to medium range.

Its most distinctive feature is the underfolding stock, which provides sufficient rigidity during use and can be folded under the gun body for storage, significantly reducing its overall length. This allows for excellent maneuverability in airborne drops, carrying in vehicles and armored vehicles, and operation in confined spaces such as urban areas. Early models adopted a milled receiver and wooden handguard, maintaining high strength and durability.

The AK-47S, while inheriting the high reliability and firepower of the AK-47, achieved excellent portability and was widely used by the Soviet military and various countries around the world. Its design philosophy was passed down to subsequent folding AK series such as the AKMS and AKS-74, and it remains one of the classic AK models, highly popular in military history, collection, and airsoft fields.
