What is PP-19-01 Vityaz?
The PP-19-01 Vityaz (meaning "brave" in Russian) is a 9x19mm submachine gun developed by the Russian Kalashnikov Corporation (formerly Izhmash). It has been officially adopted by Russian special forces and Ministry of Internal Affairs units since 2008. Designed based on the AK-74 series, it boasts high parts compatibility and a highly reliable construction. It features a simple closed-bolt blowback mechanism and a firing rate of approximately 700-800 rounds per minute. It comes standard with a 30-round magazine, and two magazines can be connected for instant reloading.
There are also derivatives such as the "Vityaz-SN," which is equipped with a foldable metal side-folding stock, a selector and grip inherited from the AK, and even a top cover and side mount compatible with Picatinny rails. Designed for use in urban areas and inside buildings, it is highly regarded for its portability and high accuracy, specialized for combat in tight spaces.
This model has also appeared in numerous games and films. A prime example is its appearance as the "Vityaz-SN" in "Escape from Tarkov," where it has been highly praised by players for its realistic performance. It also appears as the "Vaznev-9K" in "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II" (2022), where it is a popular weapon frequently used in the e-sports scene. It has also been used in many other well-known FPS games, including "Rainbow Six Siege," "Ghost Recon Breakpoint," and "Survarium," making it a familiar sight to game fans.
Due to its practical performance, unique appearance, and extensive media exposure, the PP-19-01 is widely recognized as one of the most representative modern Russian submachine guns.
