Product Description

S&W M27 "The .357 Magnum" 3.5inch Steel Finish

In 1935, a legendary gun was born: the "S&W The .357 Magnum," commonly known as the "Registered Magnum." This marked the birth of the model that would later be called the "S&W M27" when the model number system was introduced. The ".357 Magnum round," which still exists today, was also developed at this time.
Upon its release, it was advertised as "the most powerful revolver in the world." This high-powered handgun was eagerly purchased not only by general gun enthusiasts but also by law enforcement officers.
However, initial sales, as the name "Registered" suggests, were not for general sale but rather a bespoke, custom-order system where a registration certificate, also serving as a quality guarantee, was included. Customers could meticulously choose details such as sights, barrel length in ¼-inch increments, finish, and grips. But this custom-order approach caused problems; initially, the monthly production capacity was only about 120 units. Yet, thousands of orders poured in. S&W was delighted by the overwhelming demand.
Afterward, production was temporarily halted during World War II, but renewed models resumed production after the war. Demand for the post-war "The .357 Magnum" was high, but the issue of price weighed heavily. While a less expensive version, "The Highway Patrolman" (later the M28), which omitted some finishes, was introduced, the reliability and demand for "The .357 Magnum" remained high. When the model number system began in 1957, the custom-order system with its countless combinations was streamlined, and the registration system was abolished.
Even with a streamlined and efficient variation, unlike the cheaper M28, this model inherited the tradition of the Registered Magnum, featuring a luxurious design with anti-glare checkering on the top surface from the frame to the barrel rib, as well as on the rear sight base.
In particular, the 3-½ inch barrel length was highly popular among FBI agents for a long time, from the 1940s when it was called the Registered Magnum to the 1970s after it changed to the M27, due to its durability and reliability. It was also known as the FBI specification.
Now, a heavy steel-finish model is added to the popular M27 variations.
The steel-colored frame and barrel, reminiscent of the actual firearms of the time, are richly reproduced with plating. It faithfully replicates distinctive details such as the tapered 3-½ inch barrel, the checkering applied from the frame to the barrel, including the rear sight base, as well as the counterbored cylinder, semi-wide hammer, and narrow trigger. In addition, the trigger and hammer are given a case-hardened finish, reproducing the luxurious appearance of the era.
The cartridge used is the ".357 Magnum." The internal mechanism complies with the latest Version 2 of the S&W N-frame model gun series, achieving a level of completeness befitting a high-end model, not only in appearance but also in operation, such as a smooth trigger feel.
The charm of traditional steel color, revived with modern technology. It is a piece worthy of the name "The .357 Magnum," possessing a dignified presence that can be enjoyed for a long time as the centerpiece of a collection.
