Product Description

S&W M27 "The .357 Magnum" 5inch Steel Finish

In 1935, a legendary firearm was born: the "S&W The .357 Magnum," commonly known as the "Registered Magnum." This marked the introduction of the model number system, leading to the birth of the model later known as the "S&W M27." The " .357 Magnum" cartridge, which remains in use today, was also developed at the same time.
Upon its release, it was advertised as "the most powerful revolver in the world." This high-powered handgun was eagerly purchased not only by general gun enthusiasts but also by law enforcement officers.
However, initial sales, as the name "Registered" suggests, were not for general retail but rather a specialized, custom-order system where a registration certificate, also serving as a quality guarantee, was included. While customers could meticulously select features such as sights, barrel lengths in ¼-inch increments, finish, and grips, these custom orders caused initial production capacity to be limited to about 120 units per month. Despite this, thousands of orders poured in, much to S&W's delight.
Production was temporarily halted during World War II, but manufacturing of a renewed model resumed after the war. Demand for the post-war "The .357 Magnum" remained high, but the issue of its price became a significant hurdle. Although "The Highway Patrolman" (later the M28), a lower-cost version with a simpler finish, was introduced, trust and demand for "The .357 Magnum" remained strong. With the start of the model number system in 1957, the custom-order system with its countless combinations was streamlined by reducing variations, and the "Registered" system was abolished.
Even with streamlined variations and increased efficiency, unlike the more affordable M28, the M27 maintained the luxurious specifications traditional to the Registered Magnum, featuring anti-glare checkering on the entire top surface, from the rear sight base to the frame and barrel rib.

This model replicates the 5-inch version with a steel finish.
The steel-colored frame and barrel, reminiscent of the actual firearm of that era, are richly textured through plating. It faithfully reproduces distinctive details such as the tapered 5-inch barrel, the checkering applied from the frame to the barrel including the rear sight base, as well as the counterbored cylinder, semi-wide hammer, and narrow trigger. Additionally, the trigger and hammer feature a case-hardened style finish, recreating the luxurious appearance of the period.

The cartridge used is the ".357 Magnum." The internal mechanism complies with the latest Version 2 of the S&W N-frame model gun series, achieving a level of completion suitable for a high-end model not only in appearance but also in operation, including a smooth trigger feel.

This piece revives the charm of the traditional steel color with modern technology. It possesses a dignity worthy of the name "The .357 Magnum" and is a firearm that can be enjoyed for many years as a centerpiece of any collection.
