This limited production model is based on the TT33, which was just re-released today (November 18th), and is a special model that incorporates a variety of custom parts.
The TT33, known as the "Tokarev," is an automatic pistol that was once officially adopted by the former Soviet Army. The name of the newly commercialized model, "Type 54," refers to the "Type 54 handgun," which was cloned in China, a communist country like the Soviet Union. "X Comp" is a unique name inspired by the modern customization seen in Eastern European countries.
KSC has previously produced the "Type 54" and "TT33 X Comp" models, but this time they have not only combined them, but have also produced a new, even more unexpected custom model.
The manufacturer has described it as "an Arabian Type 54 Custom, packed with unique engravings by a Pakistani wholesaler and branded-style wooden grips for the Middle East, which loves decoration and markings," and the engraving on the body and the design of the wooden grips make it a model that makes a strong statement.
The exterior has been given a much more modern look thanks to the inclusion of a trigger safety and compensator, and the decoration, which KSC says has an Arabian feel, may look cluttered but actually matches quite well. The custom elements are tightly packed into the compact form of the Tokarev, giving it the feel of a genuine custom gun.
Furthermore, the chrome-plated barrel adds a nice touch. While KSC's original custom line has received some negative reviews recently, I think this design is quite good. It's a stark change from the plain, rugged image of the Tokarev, and it even has a cute feel to it.
The compressor is integrated with the barrel bushing and is attached to the slide rather than the end of the barrel. This inevitably increases the weight of the slide compared to normal, which also increases the blowback recoil. The package also includes a regular barrel bushing, so you can choose a style without a compressor if you prefer.
So this is KSC's latest limited edition model. There will undoubtedly be pros and cons, but I personally think it's a great design.
More recently, KSC has been releasing limited edition custom versions of existing standard models immediately after they are resold. This is a bit of a problem for both buyers and stockists, as even when a resale of a standard model is announced, it can be hard to jump on the bandwagon if you know a new custom model will be released later. Well, that's up to the manufacturer to decide, so it's not something we should be saying.
