In the 2000s, S&W began developing a new revolver chambered for the "world's most powerful handgun bullet," following the .44 Magnum. At the time of its release, the .44 Magnum, which was said to be the "world's most powerful," and the M29 set that used it, had already been usurped by the .454 Casull and emerging overseas manufacturers. Furthermore, S&W itself was repeatedly resold to overseas capital, and was struggling without a hit product.
Later, with the company's return to American ownership, the "M500" was produced with the aim of restoring the brand's influence. A special round, the .500 S&W Magnum, was developed specifically for this gun. This .500 magnum round is said to be approximately three times more powerful than the aforementioned .44 Magnum round. For this reason, the company adopted the X-frame, an extra-large size among its revolver frame standards. This gun, embodying the "USA No. 1" philosophy, was a huge hit, and S&W once again achieved a renaissance as one of America's leading firearms manufacturers, despite its limited practicality due to the use of the largest commercially available magnum round.
The Pegasus M500 series gas guns, now in their Ver. 2 form, feature improved gas efficiency and a new engraving that matches the real gun. The heavyweight frame and barrel are now available in black. While maintaining the same shooting performance, the weight of the frame and barrel is impressive.
