The Professional's Choice: SFA1911

Springfield Armory Inc. (hereinafter SFA) is a manufacturer that achieved success by expanding its operations to include AR15-type rifles and 1911 clones, starting with the production of the M1A rifle, a civilian version of the M14 rifle, which was the standard service rifle of the U.S. military from the 1970s.

Initially, SFA had a strong impression of being a brand that produced copies of military firearms. However, after the 1980s, top shooters such as Rob Leatham used custom SFA1911s in the world of competitive shooting (speed shooting) and achieved brilliant results, drawing significant attention.

In the 1990s, the FBI's (Federal Bureau of Investigation) counter-terrorism special forces unit, HRT (Hostage Rescue Team), adopted a customized 1911 from SFA as their official equipment. Following this, subunits, primarily the MSPF (Maritime Special Purpose Force) within the U.S. Marine Corps MEU (Marine Expeditionary Unit), adopted the SFA1911 as the M45 MEUSOC. This elevated SFA's brand image to surpass even the original Colt.

The Fierce Serpent Operator Custom

WESTERN ARMS is offering the Operator Custom, based on the SFA Professional Light Rail, as a pro-spec railed frame model that covers all the equipment required for modern tactics. Specifications of the Snake Operator

The SFA Professional was released around 1998 as a civilian market version of the 1911 custom developed for the FBI's HRT. Subsequently, the SFA Professional was updated, and the current FBI specs are incorporated into their TRP (Tactical Response Pistol) series.

WESTERN ARMS' Snake Operator reproduces its own unique style, combining these design elements.

The slide features a traditional 5-inch barrel length, but the so-called "relief cut" at the front is shorter than that of classic Colt-style designs, extending the dust cover portion of the frame.

A notable feature is the rear sight, which, despite being a tactical gun, is equipped with a fully adjustable Bomar sight. However, it is mounted lower and slightly more forward than competitive models to reduce snagging on clothing and prevent damage.

The aluminum machined bushing-type barrel is equipped with an M14 thread (clockwise thread) that allows for direct attachment of a suppressor without the need for adapters.

A thread protector is included to protect the M14 threaded portion when it is not being used as an attachment.

The robust metal Picatinny rail, reproduced as a separate part on the frame's dust cover, features an extended length with four slits, allowing for the attachment of various sized accessories.

At the base of the slide stop, an aluminum part replicates the switch for the LaserMax guide rod laser (it's a dummy and not functional).

A robust magwell with a widely flared magazine opening is attached to the bottom of the frame, which, when combined with a Wilson Combat-type extended magazine bumper, promises quick magazine changes.

The roll marks (engravings) on the slide and frame are reproduced to appear as if they have been filed off, leaving only the caliber indication, for the purpose of obscuring their origin, a detail that will delight fans.

The grip panels, which add a vivid accent color, are made from rosewood, also known as red sandalwood in Japan, a material known for its high density and excellent durability.
