What is the Defense MK18?
The Daniel Defense MK18 is a short-barreled rifle (SBR) developed for close-quarters combat (CQB) for the U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). Based on the AR-15 platform, it features a 10.3-inch chrome-lined cold hammer-forged barrel, offering high reliability and maneuverability. Its most distinctive feature is the Daniel Defense RIS II quad-rail handguard, which has been officially adopted by special forces and boasts excellent durability and expandability. The receiver is machined from 7075-T6 aluminum and features a hard-coat anodized finish. It is also designed with operability in mind, with a carbine-length direct impingement gas system and an ambidextrous GRIP-N-RIP charging handle. It measures approximately 26.75 to 29.88 inches in overall length and weighs about 2.67 kg. In the United States, it is subject to NFA regulations, requiring legal procedures for purchase and ownership. It is considered a representative model of tactical ARs, compact yet with extreme combat performance.
