■ About the Real New Model Army (From HWS's website)
Since not much is known about the real firearm that inspired this model, we'd like to share a little with our fans here.
The New Model Army is a revolver manufactured by Remington in the United States from 1863 to 1875. A total of 132,000 units were produced, and it was a .44 caliber, 6-shot percussion revolver. Percussion refers to a firing system that predates the familiar metal cartridges of modern firearms. There was a safety notch between the nipples of the percussion cylinder on the 8-inch octagonal barrel, and this safety allowed the gun to be carried safely even when fully loaded with 6 rounds.
It is also famous for its use in the American Civil War (1861-65) and was a rival to the Colt 1860 Army. While the Colt 1860 Army had an open top, the New Model Army had a solid frame, which set it apart from the 1860 Army in terms of durability. In the classic Western "Pale Rider," the scene where the protagonist quickly changes the cylinder was impressive, which is a characteristic of this gun, only possible with a solid frame.
