[Tanaka] Colt Python "Ryo Saeba" model gas gun, City Hunter official collaboration (4th batch / re-released June 18, 2024)

To celebrate the release of "City Hunter: Angel Dust"! This is a limited edition item.

A miraculous collaboration between the popular manga "City Hunter" and toy gun manufacturer "Tanaka Works" has been realized. The "Colt Python" used by the main character, Ryo Saeba, has been modeled based on the "Colt Python 4-inch R-model Heavy Weight (※2) Gas Gun" equipped with our company's specialty "Pegasus System (※1)."

When you think of "City Hunter," the image of the Colt Python is generally well-established, but this is the first time that it has been made into an official model. This time, the author, Tsukasa Hojo, and the staff at Tanaka Works, who are fans of the original work, discussed every detail, and a model full of attention to detail was born.

When recreating the Python, which has been customized to be able to attach the "silencer" (※3) that is frequently used in the work, the emphasis was placed on modeling it to the "original manga."

Ryo's Python actually has a threaded muzzle so that a screw-on silencer can be attached. Attaching a silencer to a real revolver (revolver) doesn't really make sense, except for revolvers with special construction, and it doesn't actually provide any silencing effect. The creator pointed this out, and Tanaka Works understands it, but they decided to go with a silencer model in order to recreate the "realism within the world of City Hunter," a work from the 1980s, when information was limited.

This custom silencer that appears in the original work was made specifically for the Python, which uses .357 Magnum ammunition, and has minimal information printed on it to prevent misuse. In recreating this silencer, we did not use a typical sound-absorbing sheet, but instead used a "drum baffle" developed exclusively by Tanaka Works from an acoustic engineering perspective. We paid particular attention to the sound suppression and firing sound, imagining the firing scene in the original work. While this is impossible with a real gun, the exceptional quietness makes this a convincing model for Ryo, who frequently fires guns in the busy shopping district of Shinjuku.

In the original work, Ryo's Python is tuned by the legendary gunsmith Kenichiro Mashiba, dramatically improving its performance. This Python, which features a newly designed illustration by Tsukasa Hojo, "Mashiba's initials" engraved on the frame, is based on a highly accurate 1969 model and its serial number, "E1919" (Iiiiikuiku), is the same as the car's license plate number.

The details of Ryo's Python have finally been revealed. Please pick it up and immerse yourself in the world of City Hunter.

*1 "Pegasus System" - Tanaka Works' unique gas gun mechanism that incorporates all of the firing mechanisms of a gas gun into the cylinder (magazine section), and reproduces the feeling of a real gun with the other operating mechanisms as close as possible to the real thing.

*2 "Heavyweight": Heavyweight resin is a resin made by kneading metal into the resin to give it a high specific gravity. Since there are many limitations to making handgun-type toy guns out of metal, this resin is used to achieve both realistic weight and coldness, as well as hardness.

*3 "Silencer": A silencer. A device attached to a firearm to suppress the firing sound and flame. In modern times, it is often called a "suppressor" and translated as a "sound reducer," but we have chosen to use the term "silencer" in light of the historical context.
