S&W M27 "The .357 Magnum" 6-inch Steel Finish

In 1935, a legendary firearm was born: the "S&W The .357 Magnum," commonly known as the "Registered Magnum." This model marked the introduction of the model numbering system, later becoming known as the "S&W M27." The cartridge created alongside it, the ".357 Magnum," remains with us to this day.
Upon its release, it was advertised as the "most powerful revolver in the world." This high-powered handgun was purchased not only by general gun enthusiasts but also by law enforcement officers who flocked to acquire it.
However, as the name "Registered" implies, early production was not sold to the general public; it was sold as a custom-ordered product that included a registration certificate, which also served as a quality guarantee. Customers could select details ranging from the sights and barrel length in 1/4-inch increments to the finish and grips. Because of this custom-order nature, initial production capacity was only around 120 units per month, yet thousands of orders poured in, much to S&W's surprise.
Production was briefly halted during World War II but resumed after the war with a renewed model. While demand for the post-war "The .357 Magnum" remained high, the issue of cost became a significant burden. Although the "The Highway Patrolman" (later the M28) was introduced as a lower-cost version with simplified finishing, the reliability and demand for "The .357 Magnum" remained strong. In 1957, with the implementation of the model numbering system, the registered system was abolished, and the vast number of custom variations were streamlined.
Even with the streamlined variations, it retained the luxurious specifications traditional to the Registered Magnum—unlike the lower-cost M28—such as an anti-reflective checkering pattern covering the top of the frame and the barrel rib, as well as the rear sight base.

　The 6-inch tapered barrel features a Partridge front sight—the only one in the M27 series—which emphasizes accuracy. The model faithfully reproduces the classical yet fresh charm of the 1970s 6-inch model, including a counter-bored cylinder to cover the rim of the cartridge to withstand high pressures and the low reliability of primers at the time, a wide hammer and wide trigger befitting a target model, and oversized grips. In addition, the trigger and hammer are finished in a case-hardened style, recreating the high-class appearance of the era.

　The cartridge used is the ".357 Magnum." The internal mechanism follows the latest Version 2 of the S&W N-frame model gun series, achieving a level of perfection worthy of a high-end model in both operation and appearance, including a smooth trigger feel.

　Revived with modern technology, this is the charm of the traditional steel color. With a presence worthy of the name "The .357 Magnum," this is a piece you will be able to enjoy as the centerpiece of your collection for years to come.
