KSC's limited collaboration model "Sword Cutlass Ver.II" released

on July 30, 2021

Hello everyone! This is the ROCK-et staff.

This time, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the popular manga and anime "Black Lagoon," we'll be doing a quick review of the "Sword Cutlass ver. II," which has been re-released by KSC for the first time in over a decade!

While looking at the appearance of this new Sword Cutlass, I wondered, "Is there anything different from the original Sword Cutlass?"

I would like to write about my impressions based solely on my memories of the many first-generation Cutlasses (second-hand) that I have seen.

So let's get started right away!

First, when I opened the lid, I was greeted by the usual KSC instruction manual! The manual for the standard M9 series model has been supplemented with a supplementary instruction manual for the Sword Cutlass.

As always with limited edition items, there are instructions on how to repair special edition parts and advice on how to handle them to prevent deterioration of the silver plating.

I think the packaging design is cooler than the original!

And when I gently put this manual aside...

Here he comes.

The 6.5 inch long barrel is divine!

Well, this can't be helped, but because the foam inside is reused from other models, there are some gaps and the foam can make some dents when the main body moves inside.

So let's come in and take a look.

The first thing that catches your eye is the grip.

This is probably the most distinctive feature of this gun.

From what I can see, the color of the ivory grip and the emblem don't seem to be any different from the original Cutlass.

And let's go further.

Don't you think something seems a bit off?

I was like, "Hmmmm?". Is it just me?

What I'm talking about is this slide stop lever, and the plating on it felt different from the original.

Of course, I don't have the original on hand, so I'm writing this from memory, but I think this Ver. II is a lot nicer. Wasn't the previous one a bit duller?

The takedown lever, safety lever, and hammer are also plated with the same plating. It seems to give them a shinier finish and the coating is strong.

And here's the slide markings:

Hmm, this feels a bit different too.

The markings are very clear, aren't they? What do you think?

I feel like the first one was a little thinner.

I don't have this on hand so I'm not sure...

Even if there is one, it's a product from over 10 years ago, so it's hard to compare it to if it has aged a little. However, it still feels good.

If you have the original, I'd love for you to compare the two in person!

And overall it's very good so far!

Now, the majority of people who buy this model will naturally be collectors, so I think it's normal that they will only run it a few times at first, or even never at all.

One thing I often see used on the first generation guns that you should be careful of is that the area circled in yellow in this photo will wear down as you shoot.

This may have been improved in the latest version II, but as you move it around, it will rub against the frame and gradually create lines of 2-3 mm, and if you use it heavily, the surface will peel off, revealing a whitish resin skin.

I've seen this quite often, so I think it's important to be careful with this product as well.

Also, please be aware that the ivory grip, which is the defining feature of this model, is prone to discoloration.

I have seen quite a few that have turned yellow or brown due to sun exposure, cigarette tar, or fingerprints (?), so if you want to cherish them, I recommend being careful to keep them out of direct sunlight when displaying them.

Finally, the magazine.

Well, this is normal. There are no special specifications for the Cutlass.

However, the surface has a rough paint finish, which is a change from the original model which had a smooth surface.

So that's all from the scene.

The first batch, released in late July 2021, was produced in extremely limited quantities, causing many people to cry, but according to the manufacturer, additional production is planned.

I hope you make lots next time!

Thank you, KSC!
