About the real steel VKS Vykhlop:
The VKS Vykhlop (Vihlop) is a special sniper rifle developed by Russia's TsKIB SOO (Central Design Bureau for Sport and Hunting Weapons) in the early 2000s, chambered in 12.7x55mm STs-130 subsonic ammunition. Also known as "VKS" or "VSSK," it was developed for the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) special forces. It was designed to maintain high stealth while providing superior stopping power against targets wearing body armor or behind cover, operating as a special rifle for missions difficult to handle with the conventional VSS Vintorez.
The VKS's most distinctive feature is its integrated suppressor combined with specially developed 12.7x55mm subsonic ammunition. Compared to typical 12.7mm rifles, it significantly reduces muzzle flash and sound while maintaining the high kinetic energy characteristic of large-caliber rounds, providing excellent penetration against body armor and light cover. Multiple specialized ammunition types, such as high-precision and armor-piercing rounds, can be used depending on the application, offering high accuracy and stopping power with an effective range of approximately 600m.
It employs a bullpup layout and bolt-action operation, ensuring sufficient barrel length while keeping the overall length short, thus achieving excellent portability in confined spaces. It uses a 5-round detachable magazine, and the Picatinny rail allows for the attachment of various optical sights and night vision devices. It also features folding iron sights, combining the high practicality and reliability required for special operations.
The VKS Vykhlop is a special sniper rifle that balances high stealth with the powerful stopping power of a 12.7mm caliber, and it is still in use by Russian special forces.
