PEGASAS Ⅱ Gas Gun Series Colt Single Action Army 2nd Generation 4-3/4 inch Black HW
150 years ago, in 1873, one of the greatest handguns in history was manufactured. This was the Colt Single Action Army (SAA), a gun that symbolized the American Wild West. Although it has undergone several discontinuations and specification changes, the .45 Long Colt caliber, nicknamed the "Peacemaker," is a long-lasting gun that is still sold by Colt to civilians.
Following a temporary halt in production during World War II, the models produced from 1956, when production resumed, until 1974 are called the Second Generation. Compared to the earliest First Generation black powder models, the First Generation has a base pin for fixing the cylinder that is screwed in from the front of the frame, whereas the Second Generation has a base pin that is fixed in from both sides of the frame with screws and nuts, and the ejector rod head is circular rather than half-moon shaped.
The second-generation model mentioned above, which was readily available, was primarily used in postwar Westerns. Western movies were a hit, and television Westerns were also produced in large numbers. These were imported and aired in Japan, where they became a huge hit. In recent years, SAA has once again been attracting attention, with characters using SAA in video games, the main character using a custom SAA in a movie featuring a large group of action stars, and Western-themed open-world action games becoming hits.
The SAA was the first in Tanaka's PEGASAS system revolver series, a series that was released in 1999 and continues to this day. At the time, most revolver-type airsoft guns were cartridge-fed gas guns, but the PEGASAS system moved the gas tank and magazine mechanism into the cylinder, consolidating them into a realistic internal structure and successfully reproducing the delicate trigger feel that was not possible with conventional cartridge-fed gas guns.
In 2005, it underwent a minor change to become a detachable cylinder model, making it more realistic and easier to maintain, as the cylinder is now detachable just like a real gun.
The popularity of the Pegasus SAA led to the development of competitions using airsoft guns, such as "cowboy shooting" (a Western-style shooting match) and "fast draw" (a time trial shooting using an SAA in which competitors compete to see who can draw a gun from a holster and fire the fastest).
The problems with the Pegasus SAA were also revealed during this process. In the above competitions, speed is emphasized with quick firing and double-handed shooting, which puts stress on various parts of the gun that is not normally expected for airsoft guns, so users have dealt with this by customizing their own guns.
As repair requests came to our company, it became clear that the SAA was a gun that took a lot of abuse compared to other automatic pistols and double-action revolvers.
To address this, a plan to refine the SAA was launched within the company around 2018. The design was based on the development concept of "high durability, more realistic, and capable of being used in airsoft games and fast draws."
The cylinder fixation, a concern with detachable cylinders, has been changed to a base pin that penetrates the cylinder like a real gun. This base pin then strikes the valve inside the cylinder, a new system called "PEGASAS II" has been adopted. (Patented) It also features a variable hop-up mechanism for use in survival games. The revolver also uses an internal magazine system like other Pegasus-style models, addressing the magazine capacity limitations of revolvers. Furthermore, a 10-round reserve is possible in the ejector tube, allowing for a total of 25 rounds. Other improvements include the addition of cushioning and reinforcement parts to internal parts that are subject to stress, and the realism of each part.
In addition, consideration has been given to existing users, and some parts (hammer, trigger, bolt, backstrap, grip, etc.) are designed to be compatible with detachable cylinder models.
The long-awaited heavyweight model has arrived in the PEGASAS II series 4-¾ inch. The original ABS model was heavy enough to be mistaken for a heavyweight model, but now it's even heavier. What's more, the heavyweight resin makes it possible to blue it, which is something not to be missed. This model, which will expand the scope of SAA customization, is now available in the popular 4-¾ inch.
