Product Description

SMOLT Revolver 6inch Stainless Finish Ver.3 Square butt Model Gun

In the 1970s, Smith & Wesson's .357 Magnum revolvers did not feature full-lug barrels with weights underneath. In contrast, its rival, Colt's Python, boasted high barrel machining precision and the significant advantage of reducing muzzle jump during firing due to the added weight from the underlug. Additionally, the Python was praised for its strong rifling spin effect, providing excellent straight-line stability by imparting sufficient spin to the projectile.
ย
However, while the Python's trigger action was exceptionally smooth, it also had the drawback of making it difficult to gauge the exact moment the hammer fell. Conversely, S&W's action was often considered superior in trigger control, making it a natural progression for competition shooters and gunsmiths to wonder if "the best of both worlds" could be combined.
ย
This led to the creation of the ultimate hybrid revolverโ€”the "SMOLT." Among these, the works of renowned Californian gunsmith Bill Davis are particularly well-known. His intricate early creations, which locked the tip of the ejector rod in addition to the more common method of embedding a locking ball in the yoke, are now highly rare and incredibly popular among collectors.
ย
The Smolt was, in essence, a completely custom-order model, where users would bring in their S&W K-frame and specify the length of the Python barrel to be fitted. While the Smolt previously released by Tanaka Works was based on a round-butt K-frame, after its release, many old fans requested a "square-butt version."
ย
Therefore, we have created a square-butt version of the Smolt. Not content with just a different frame, we have also changed to a wide hammer and wide trigger, and fitted an oversized grip. The result is a piece that strongly evokes a classic, vintage atmosphere. Furthermore, this stainless finish model is specified to be built upon an M66 base. Not only the frame and barrel, but also the aforementioned trigger and hammer, have a stainless finish.
ย
This is a fusion of practicality and presence at a high level, while reminiscing about custom guns of yesteryear. The stainless finish, embodying the new charm of the Smolt with its striking classical design and unique stainless texture, is now available as a model gun equipped with the latest K-frame Ver.3 mechanism.
ย
(*While long known as "SMYTHSON" in Japan, it has been referred to as "SMOLT" in the US, combining the manufacturer names. With the latest Ver.3 update, the model name has been standardized to "SMOLT.")
