Real Steel Overview:
The AKM is a 7.62×39mm assault rifle adopted by the Soviet Union's Izhmash (now Kalashnikov Concern) in 1959. It is a refined and mass-produced version of the AK-47, which was adopted in 1949. As the name "Modernized Kalashnikov" suggests, it is known as a highly perfected model with improved productivity, durability, and operability. Due to its excellent reliability and ease of manufacturing, it has been adopted and licensed for production in various countries around the world, and is still highly regarded as one of the world's leading assault rifles.

The most significant feature of the AKM is its adoption of a stamped steel receiver instead of the milled receiver of the AK-47. This achieved weight reduction and improved production efficiency, making it suitable for mass production. Furthermore, the adoption of a new trigger mechanism and rate reducer improved stability and operational reliability during full-auto firing.

It employs the traditional long-stroke gas piston system and rotating bolt of the AK series, ensuring stable operation even in harsh environments such as mud, dust, and low temperatures. The 7.62×39mm ammunition it uses provides high penetration and stopping power, delivering excellent suppression capability from close to medium ranges. Additionally, the standard-equipped distinctive slant muzzle brake reduces recoil and muzzle climb, enhancing control during firing.

The exterior features a wooden stock and handguard, achieving high maintainability and durability with its simple and robust structure. Later, specifications adopting resin and laminated wood parts also appeared, and unique variants have been produced in many countries. The AKM laid the foundation for modern Kalashnikov series, such as the succeeding AK-74 and AK-100 series. It is still widely known around the world as a representative 20th-century assault rifle that combines high reliability and practicality.
