Product Description

The Gewehr 33/40 is a distinctive short bolt-action rifle used primarily by German mountain troops during World War II.
Its roots lie in the vz. 33, a short rifle developed in pre-World War II Czechoslovakia. In the 1930s, the Brno arms factory in Czechoslovakia produced the vz. 33, a Mauser 98-pattern short rifle intended for use by police and border guards. With its compact design and reduced overall length, the rifle was well suited to environments requiring mobility, such as mountainous terrain.
In 1939, when Czechoslovakia fell under German control, the Brno arms factory also came under German administration, and existing vz. 33 rifles were modified for use by the German army. In 1940, the Gewehr 33/40 was adopted as a short rifle for mountain troops.
The Gew 33/40 (Gew: abbreviation for Gewehr; hereafter Gew) was based on the same Mauser 98 mechanism as the Kar 98k but featured a short 490 mm barrel. By keeping the overall length to approximately 1 m, the rifle was designed with a focus on portability and handling in rugged mountainous terrain.
One of the rifle's distinctive features is the large steel plate on the left side of the stock. This characteristic detail unique to the Gew 33/40 is said to have been added to protect the wooden stock from contact and impact with rocks and other obstacles when carrying the rifle with a sling in mountainous terrain.
Produced in Brno from 1940 to 1942, approximately 130,000 units were manufactured. Due to its relatively short production run, it is now known as a highly collectible model. In 1942, production at the factory switched to the Kar 98k, and production of the Gew 33/40 ended.

Tanaka Works has modeled the Gew 33/40 as an air-cocking airsoft gun.
Combining a wooden stock with metal parts, it reproduces the compact silhouette unique to the Gew 33/40, as well as the distinctive style of a rifle designed for mountain troops, including the reinforcement fitting at the rear of the stock.
And now, the "Gew 33/40 Mountain Trooper AIR" has been upgraded to Version 2. To improve durability, the conventional resin piston has been replaced with a reinforced machined aluminum version. The spring guide has also been changed from resin to lubricated-coated steel. Furthermore, the addition of thrust bearings reduces spring friction, ensuring smooth and stable operation. Internal parts, including the sear latch, have also been reinforced to enhance overall durability.
Version 2 not only improves visual accuracy but also enhances the internal mechanism. While maintaining the basic handling characteristics of an air-cocking bolt-action rifle, the specifications have been revised throughout.

The "Gew 33/40 Mountain Trooper AIR Version 2" reproduces the compact body and wooden stock unique to the Gew 33/40 while featuring a reinforced internal mechanism.
Enjoy its historic style and the handling characteristics unique to air-cocking rifles.
