"SFP9" is the European name for the VP9. The more well-known "VP9" is the name given to H&K USA products.
In Germany, where H&K's head office is located, the name is SFP9, and since it is a handgun delivered to the JGSDF from German H&K, the model name is SFP9.
There are various variations of the SFP9, but in 2020, the JGSDF newly selected the "SFP9 Maritime." Commonly called "SFP9M," it is a model that adds water resistance to the SFP9.
In addition to corrosion resistance against seawater, this variation also emphasizes the ability to fire immediately after emerging from being submerged in water.
